Northcott Neighborhood House has sponsored Head Start since its inception in 1965, growing from one center serving 60 children to three centers serving 295 children and their families. The objective of the program is to provide high-quality services to low-income children and families so that children can begin public school with a "head start." Serving children with disabilities is a priority.
Two program options are offered to families:
- Full day – Monday through Friday, 7 A.M. – 5 P.M.
- Part day - 8 A.M. – 11:30 A.M. or 12:30 P.M. – 4:00 P.M.
Centers are open September thru May, except for two classrooms at Northcott Head Start that are funded to operate year round.
The program serves all children 3-5 years of age who meet federal low-income guidelines. In order to apply, families need to bring documentation of the child’s age, immunizations records, and household income. Head Start is a free service. Sites are located in Milwaukee, WI at these locations:

Northcott children are exposed to learning opportunities to increase and develop their social, emotional, intellectual and physical skills. Nutritious meals and snacks are served daily. It is important that children are healthy to learn; therefore, physical and dental exams are required as part of the health screening program.
Parents are active participants who are involved through volunteering in the classrooms, parent meetings, and serving on various committees. This assures their participation in decision making regarding the operation of the centers. Parents are also encouraged to participate in informational trainings and in the Healthy Relationships and Marriage Enhancement Program.
